Public Statement by Dr. Faisal Al‑Mutairi
President, International Diplomatic Union (IDU)
On the Occasion of the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace (A/RES/73/127)
24 April
Today, the International Diplomatic Union joins the global community in commemorating the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, established by the United Nations to promote multilateral cooperation, support diplomatic dialogue, and advance global efforts toward sustainable peace and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. This day provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of multilateralism in building trust among nations, fostering mutual understanding, and protecting the shared values of the international community.
Multilateralism and diplomacy are not merely political tools; they are fundamental pillars for promoting peace and security, resolving conflicts fairly, and ensuring respect for human rights and international law. This day reminds us that a commitment to international cooperation and constructive dialogue strengthens the foundation for more stable and peaceful societies and nations.
We honor diplomats, institutions, international organizations, and individuals who dedicate themselves to advancing multilateralism and peaceful conflict resolution, who face challenges with determination and perseverance, and who continue their efforts to promote global peace and security. Their commitment inspires the international community to continue supporting initiatives that focus on cooperation and mutual understanding.
In line with its mandate, the International Diplomatic Union remains committed to supporting programs and initiatives that strengthen multilateral diplomacy, including workshops, partnerships with regional and international institutions, educational initiatives, and community projects aimed at fostering dialogue, empowering individuals, and developing peaceful solutions to local and international conflicts.
Around the world, activities marking this day—including conferences, workshops, awareness campaigns, and dialogue sessions—highlight the role of multilateralism and diplomacy in promoting sustainable peace, while supporting professionals and organizations that document initiatives and contribute to achieving positive impact for societies and nations.
On this occasion, the IDU calls upon governments, international organizations, and civil society to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism, diplomatic dialogue, and sustainable peace. Only through collaboration and collective effort can we lay the foundation for a more stable and peaceful future for all.
